After all the ‘eggcitement‘ of Easter this terms topic is extra yummy, Year 1 were very happy to hear that they are learning about CHOCOLATE. Our topic will see us write adventure stories about our very own chocolate monster, design and make our own chocolate bar and wrapper and learn about where chocolate originates from.

We kicked off our new topic with some exciting additions to our classroom.  Our classroom has been transformed into Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory with our very own sweet shop and chocolate making station as well as the golden ticket table.

Throughout the term each child will have the chance to receive a golden ticket, this will be found in their book bag draw.Once a golden ticket has been found, the very proud owner of the golden ticket will be a VIP for the day. The VIP will get to an extra comfy and table at the front of the classroom with special stationary. Alicia was the first VIP and as you can see she was very pleased about this.
I can already tell that this topic is going to go down a sweet treat and we can’t wait to find out more about chocolate.
We would love to know what your favourite chocolate bar is so that we have lots of ideas and inspiration for when we make our own chocolate bar.
We look forward to reading your comments.

Reading at home

Posted by kwilson | Posted in General News | Posted on 22-09-2016

I am so impressed with how many children in year 1 are reading at home every single night. Involvement in your child’s reading and learning is extremely important and will provide them with fantastic opportunities in preparation for academic excellence. Many children will soon be receiving their wonderful Reading Olympics bronze medal for their fantastic efforts. I am hopeful that the majority of us will receive gold medal in a few weeks, which would be amazing!

We have quiet reading most mornings during registration and the opportunity to change our books on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Please remember to bring book bags every day so that we can hear your child read, check diaries and so that the children have a safe place for any important letters.

If you would like any advice on activities, games or other ways to support your child’s reading. Please contact me and we can discuss this.

Thank you

Miss Wilson

Roald Dahl Day

Posted by kwilson | Posted in General News | Posted on 13-09-2016

Today we celebrated Roald Dahl’s 100th birthday by looking at the Roald Dahl story, George’s Marvellous Medicine. We began our Roald Dahl day by watching Rik Mayall’s Jackanory video of the story, before thinking about how we could make our own marvellous medicine. We decided on the ingredients we would use and began making our own potions. Elliott reminded us of the importance of making sure our potion was brown, so that grandma wouldn’t get suspicious.

Can you spot any of the ingredients that we used?

Once we had made our medicine we wrote down all of our ingredients and the different measures we used.  We even thought about what our potion would do to somebody if they drank it!

Can you guess some of the ideas year 1 came up with?

We would love to read your comments and ideas.

Thank you from Miss Wilson and Year 1
